Bridges replace missing teeth by literally 'bridging' the gap. The bridgework attaches a replacement tooth onto the natural teeth on either side of the gap.

If you're missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in your natural function such as chewing and speaking. You may also find that over time, the shape of your face / profile may change along with your natural bite and this may affect your self-confidence.

There are two main types of Bridges available - Adhesive and Conventional.

Adhesive Bridges are very conservative indeed and involve bonding a metal wing to the inner part of an adjacent tooth or teeth with special adhesives. The replacement tooth is held in place by this wing.

Whereby with Conventional Bridges , the teeth on either side of the gap are made up as Crowns and the replacement tooth joins the Crowns together into one large restoration.

Nowadays, with modern technology it is possible to make fantastically aesthetic small Bridges without any metal component by using a shade matched Zirconium core to provide the strength required.

While large Bridges are possible, they are not always advisable and nowadays, Implants would probably be a better option to replace multiple teeth.
